Round three of the West District Hockey leagues had plenty of action, talking points and goals. Let’s take a look.

Division 1 – Giffnock go top!

Giffnock’s unbeaten start to the season continues as they won a tight battle at Balgray, against Hillhead 4th XI. The 2-1 score line was probably a fair reflection of the game with Giffnock having the lions share of the possession. Uddingston 3rd XI had an excellent match at home to Rottenrow as they put seven passed the visitors. What’s more impressive is that it came from seven different scorers. Hillhead 5th XI had a big victory over struggling Helensburgh, with Logan MacAuley getting a hat-trick to help his side win 6-1. Elsewhere, Greenock defeated Clydesdale 4th XI 5-3, whilst Clydesdale 3rd XI had an impressive 7-0 win over Kelburne 2nd XI.

Division 2 – Big win for Clydesdale.

Clydesdale 5th XI had a statement victory on Saturday, after they demolished Kelburne 3rd XI 8-0. Manu Ratnayake got four for the home side as the two sides played the match out. The 8-0 may have flattered Clydesdale, as Kelburne were well in the game, but Clydesdale certainly took their chances when they had them. Dumfries opened their league season with an impressive 7-2 win over Rottenrow 3rd XI at the National Hockey Centre. It was Dumfries opening fixture and the win shows they mean business this season. Elsewhere, Western 4th XI overcame Uddingston 4th XI with a 4-1 win.

Division 3 – Anchor move top.

It was a close game at the On-X at the weekend as Anchor edged out Hillhead 7th XI 4-3. Captain Robert White’s brace helped the Linwood side to all three points. It was another tight match at Eastwood High School, as Giffnock 2nd XI and Clydesdale 6th XI shared the points. Rob Slater got the only goal in the final match of division three, earning Greenock 2nd XI the three points as they defeated Kelburne 4th XI 1-0.
