It’s the holiday weekend for some, but hockey still goes on in the district.
Only the one game in division one this weekend as Glasgow University 3rd XI start their season at long last. After promotion from division two last year, the students will be hoping to get a win under their belt in their opening match. They take on Hillhead 4th XI at Hutcheson’s Grammar School, at 13:15.
Division two has a full schedule to play with. Dumfries come up against Uddingston 4th XI at the King George V pitch in Dumfries. They’ll be hoping to overturn last weeks 5-1 defeat to Uddingston 3rd XI with a victory at home. GHK have had a bright start to the season and will be looking to continue that as they face Hillhead 6th XI, one of division threes promoted sides from last season. Another promoted side, Kelburne 4th XI host Greenock 2nd XI at the ON-X. Elsewhere, Strathclyde University 2nd XI travel down to Ayr and Western 4th XI welcome Rottenrow 2nd XI to Auchenhowie.
It’s finally time for Rottenrow 3rd XI to play their opening game of the season and as a team. They face the other new team in the division, Clydesdale 6th XI at Titwood. Anchor also start their season with a home tie vs. Helensburgh 2nd XI. The Linwood side will be keen for a good start, with promotion on their minds. The other match see’s Giffnock 2nd XI take on Dumfries 2nd XI at Eastwood High School.
